# Autonomy

> Decide how much Heralded does without asking you first.

Autonomy sets how far Heralded carries [actions](/concepts/actions) on its own. It is set per brand, on your brand's **Autonomy** settings page. On every plan Heralded prepares work and stops for you. On Plus you can let it go further.

## Before Heralded acts

The page opens on two switches:

* **Ask me before anything leaves Heralded.** Heralded drafts and prepares work, then waits for you before it writes to your site or sends anything. On by default. Turning it off needs Plus and lets work you start run through without asking again.
* **Apply safe site fixes automatically.** It covers two fixes made through WordPress, robots.txt rules for AI crawlers and your homepage's structured data. Shown once the [WordPress Connector](/concepts/connections#wordpress) is set up. When on, Heralded also picks up suggested fixes of those kinds by itself.

Every plan can use the default, with the first switch on and the second off. Any other combination needs Plus.

Before you save, the preview shows how many site fixes your change would start. Your homepage's structured data counts only when the connection can write to your homepage. A kit you paste yourself does not count.

## Advanced

**Advanced** sets each area of work on its own. The areas are:

* **Engineer · website fixes**. The only area where Heralded can act outside Heralded, and only through a site connection.
* **Writer · content**. Briefs and long-form pieces. Each piece waits for your approval, and you publish it on your site yourself. Heralded does not publish pieces.
* **Publicist · outreach**. Reaching the sites AI engines cite. Heralded drafts and never sends an email. Each [outreach route](/concepts/actions#outreach) has its own switch and choices labelled **Up to N a week** for the number of actions Heralded files.

**Set all to…** applies one preset to every area, and each area also has its own presets:

| Preset | For site fixes, as an example |
| - | - |
| Manual | you start each step and approve every change to your site |
| Ask first | fixes you start are prepared, and each write waits for your approval |
| Delegate | fixes you start are written to your site without asking again |
| Autopilot | suggested fixes are also picked up and written to your site on their own |

Ask first is the default. Delegate and Autopilot need Plus. Each preset is a combination of four switches, which **Customize** under an area opens. A mix that matches no preset shows as **Custom**:

| Switch | When on, Heralded |
| - | - |
| Picks up suggested work on its own | starts suggested work without being asked |
| Runs the steps without being started | moves started work through its steps |
| Approves its own drafts | skips your approval of its drafts |
| Acts outside Heralded on its own | writes to your site without asking again |

Every plan can turn on **Runs the steps without being started**. The other three need Plus.
